Heaven in a Room. Wooden ceilings in Renaissance Florence and Rome

Events in Florence: from August 30 to December 1, 2019

Sometimes we don't pay attention, we are used to looking around, but we rarely look up. But above us lie often unexpected masterpieces. The exhibition Heaven in a Room. Wooden ceilings in Renaissance Florence and Rome aims to illustrate such treasures to the general public. You can visit it until December 1st 2019.

The Sala Detti and the Sala del Camino inside the Uffizi Galleries will house a parade of works different from those we are used to admiring in a museum. You will also see drawings mainly from the Uffizi collection, describing ancient prototypes of important complexes such as the Domus Aurea and the temple of Bacchus in Rome. The exhibition is enriched with precious materials such as paintings, engravings and models of these ornaments of interior space, often not appreciated as much as they should. The exhibition focuses on the renovation of palaces and churches in Florence and Rome between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Technique, art and symbolic representation meet in the ceilings on display and above our heads ... let us pay attention to it.
